On February 25th, a group of volunteers from the Illinois Leadership Seminars came to Oregon High School to run a leadership workshop called iLead. The Oregon High School Student Council sponsored the event, which was free of charge to all attendees. Students from Oregon and Milledgeville High Schools attended the workshop. Students went through a series of activities where they discovered their leadership style, took a stand on their beliefs in different scenarios, and designed their dream schools. Throughout the entire day, the students were engaged and eager to better their leadership skills. Illinois Leadership Seminars is a non-for-profit organization that conducts a three-day seminar on the campus of North Park University, in Chicago, for sophomores from across the state. One student is selected from each school to attend. ILS vigorously fundraises and with the help from their donors and local donations, every student is able to attend at no cost. Meredith Gelander attended the seminar last June, and Allyse Ketter attended during the summer of 2015 and served on staff this past summer. Both students wanted to bring ILS back to their school to share the experience they had with their classmates. The Oregon High School Student Council would like to thank Ralphie and Lulu’s of Ashton for graciously donating and catering lunch and The Village Bakery, which will be opening soon, for donating baked goods.
