The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois awarded Oregon Elementary School a $46,000 grant to offer summer programming aimed at improving student learning outcomes in the area of math. OES Principal Ryan Huels submitted the grant with plans to offer a free weekday camp to elementary students in which they will receive extra instruction in math while also having the opportunity to participate in a variety of physical activities similar to a traditional summer camp. Grant
funds will be used to provide highly trained teachers as camp facilitators, materials for the camp, and for students to receive activities they can do following the camp, and lesson activities.
“We have made considerable efforts during the school year to improve outcomes for students in math, but realized there was void in high-quality instructional opportunities and engaging activities at low cost for families in summer which was the impetus for submitting the grant”- Ryan Huels.
The math summer camp will take place in June of 2025 with more information to come about registration in the Spring.
Thank you to the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for their generous grant award that will positively impact our students.
