Mr. Dace’s Physics students have been working very hard for the past two weeks building their catapult projects. Yesterday, they finally got to test them on the practice field as they measured distances and compared their predicted outcomes to the actual results.

The Oregon Boys Bowling team participated in the IHSA Sectional tournament at The Cherry Bowl, Rockford today and narrowly missed advancing to the IHSA State Finals as a team but did advance 1 individual to next weekend’s event in Fairview Heights. Rylann Delehanty, Freshman, recorded a season high 1328 series (267,194,214,246,247,160) good enough for a 7th place individual series and was the 3rd highest individual advancers, not on an advancing team, earning him a spot in the State Finals. Also, just missing advancing was Senior RJ Keene with a 1276 series, one position out of advancing. Oregon was tied for 4th, the final advancing team spot, going into the final game, but struggles on the changing lane conditions end the Hawk’s team season – 104 pins short of advancing. Rounding out Oregon’s performance were Ivan Hernandez 1120 series, Caleb Ehrler 1054 series, Andrew Stahl 783 series (4-games) and Ethan Rowe 347 series (2-games).

Delehanty’s advancing marks the 2nd Oregon Bowling team Freshman to advance to the State Finals and his 1328 series is the 2nd highest OHS bowler’s IHSA Sectional score. His advancing also marks the 18th IHSA State Finals appearance for Oregon in the 23-year history of Oregon Bowling.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to the extreme cold currently projected during bus pick-up times and the walk to school, Oregon CUSD 220 will move to an e-learning day on Friday, January 23.

This decision is centered on student safety during the coldest part of the morning.

For Friday, January 23:

* Students in grades 5–12 will engage in learning online using their usual platforms.

* Students in grades K–4 will complete packet-based learning materials that have already been sent home or will be provided according to building procedures.

Teachers will communicate office hours and the best way for students to get support by 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, using their normal classroom communication channels.

Extracurricular activities that occur outside of the normal school day—such as practices and competitions—may continue as scheduled, unless otherwise communicated by the coach or advisor.

Thank you for your flexibility and support as we make decisions with student safety as the priority. We appreciate your partnership.

Sincerely,
PJ Caposey

RIVALRY WEEKEND IS HERE.

This Saturday is loaded with high-level wrestling, and it all goes down at the Blackhawk Center. On January 17th, your Hawk Wrestlers open the day against the Sterling Newman Comets and the Rockridge Rockets. After that, it’s time for the main event — a crosstown rivalry showdown with the Byron Tigers. Two Northern Illinois powerhouses.

Theme of the day: CAMO. Break out your best camo gear and pack the gym to help our Hawks defend our home against that team up the road.

Doors open: 9:30 AM
Wrestling begins: 10:00 AM

Be loud. Be proud. Be ready.
