4th graders sledding in Park West!

Run, Run, as fast you can, you can’t catch me, I am the Gingerbread Man!
Kindergarten classes were treated to a visit from retired teacher Jeff Stultz who helped each class make gingerbread dough before they decorated a giant cookie in the shape of a boy or girl. After baking, the students searched for the cookies throughout the building. Many of the cookies ended up in Principal’s office to be found by the students. Thanks to the Kindergarten team for creating this memorable experience.

4th grade has been learning about energy in science. They have learned that energy can be stored in many ways- like in batteries, stretched rubber bands, or raised objects. And that it can be transferred from one place to another through sound, light, heat, or motion. They explored how energy moves and changes form to make things work in the world around them.

November Leaders of the Month!
Students from each homeroom were recognized for displaying positive behavior, demonstrating leadership at school, strong work ethic, kindness to others, and going above and beyond to help make OES a positive place for all!

This November, our “Generations” program brought even more smiles, laughter, and meaningful moments between our kindergarten students and the wonderful seniors at Pinecrest of Allure in Mount Morris.
Together, we played festive games like “Stuff the Turkey” and “Catch That Turkey,” filling the room with cheering, giggles, and teamwork. Students and seniors also worked side-by-side to decorate picture frames featuring the beautiful photos Gingersnapps Photography captured during our visits. And of course, no November gathering would be complete without a little creativity—everyone loved making their own playdough turkeys!
We are incredibly thankful for the friendships that continue to grow and the special partnership between Mrs. Huels’ Kindergarten Class and Pinecrest of Allure. Each visit reminds us how much joy, connection, and learning happens when generations come together.

We spent today honoring Veterans with our annual assembly. Thank you to all who were able to attend and for your service!

Thank you to the multiple Veterans who visited OES today to read stories about serving in the military and sharing a bit about their own experiences. We thank you for providing this experience to our students and for your service to our country. We look forward to honoring all Veterans at tomorrow’s assembly.

With OES dismissing early today and OJSHS running on the regular schedule, the MyRideK-12 app may send out incorrect drop-off notifications for OJSHS families. To keep things on track, drivers will log in to the Wednesday p.m. routes at each school’s dismissal time. This may result in families receiving multiple notifications. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any confusion this may cause.
The OHS Journalism class interviewed Mrs. Merrill’s 1st Grade class for their latest production.

Students in the OHS Educationa Pathway under the direction of Mrs. Rad have planned a Spanish Camp for OES 4th Graders. Today was the first day and the students were busy learning introductory Spanish vocabulary.
Thank you to the students involved with the planning and execution of this exciting opportunity for our students.

Halloween fun at OES!

Oregon Elementary School is proud to announce the October Leaders of the Month! Students were chosen for demonstrating leadership, kindness to others, strong work ethic , and going above and beyond to make our school a positive place!
It’s Great To Be An Oregon Hawk!

PRESS RELEASE:
Oregon Elementary School has been named as one of US News and World Report’s Best Elementary Schools, placing them among the top 40% of all elementary schools in the United States. For each state, schools were assessed on their pupils’ proficiencies in mathematics and reading, as measured by state assessment tests. Half of the ranking formula was the results themselves; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are high achieving ones that succeeded in educating all of their students. U.S. News published distinct elementary and middle school rankings calculated at the state and district levels, as well as state rankings specific to charter schools. All data for the rankings are from third-party sources, including the U.S. Department of Education.
This is the 2nd year in a row and only the 2nd time in Oregon Elementary School’s history that the building has earned this recognition. OES Principal Ryan Huels stated “This is an incredible honor for our school and a testament to the incredible work our staff does on a daily basis. To be ranked among the top Elementary Schools in the country and in the same company as districts in Illinois that are much more affluent or have less diverse student populations is something I am incredibly proud of. Our staff continues to work to provide the best possible educational experience for the OCUSD community and I am glad they are getting the recognition they deserve.”.
Thank you to the entire OCUSD #220 community for their continued efforts and support in our pursuit of excellence in all that we do. Please join us in congratulating the staff and students of Oregon Elementary School for this remarkable achievement.
