Hawks help tackle world hunger today! Mrs. Caposey's and Mr. Bell's Hawk Huddles traveled to Feed My Starving Children in Aurora to not only learn about global food shortages, but do something about it. They helped package 75 boxes of Manna packs to be shipped around the world to feed hungry children! See photos for the amazing statistics!

Congratulations to the Oregon student musicians who were selected to ILMEA all-state! Our vocalists are Sebastian Wright (all-state chorus), Sarah Eckardt (honors chorus), Aralin McLain (honors chorus), and Elliot Peeling (honors chorus). Our instrumentalists are Alexya Tran and Lia Tran, who will re-audition for ensemble placement. "We are very proud of these students and the hard work they put into the audition process," said band director, Andy Eckardt. Choir director, Zach Hall said, "I am excited for the opportunity to take these students to Peoria, some for the first time and others for a third time." The all-state festival and music education conference is in Peoria, Jan. 28-31.

OJSHS Morning Drop-Off Reminder

Families, please remember that the only approved drop-off locations for OJSHS students in the morning are:

Corner of 10th Street and Madison

The Blackhawk Center

Jefferson Street entrance

For safety reasons, students should not be dropped off in either of the staff parking lots. These areas do not have monitored entrances for student entry, and we want to ensure all students are able to enter the building safely and appropriately.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and efficient arrival process each morning!

Junior high cheerleading will not have practice tonight.

“I’m proud to nominate Addi Rufer for the honor of Senior of Distinction. Addi is someone who genuinely works every single day to be a better version of herself. She’s incredibly kind, compassionate, and hardworking, and she always goes the extra mile in everything she does. As her math teacher, I can confidently attest to her determination within her academics. She takes on a demanding schedule filled with AP and dual credit courses, yet still goes above and beyond to deeply understand the material. On top of that, she balances being a three-sport varsity athlete while staying actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Athletic Leadership Council, Student Council, National Honor Society, and her church youth group. She’s responsible, dependable, and holds herself to high standards that inspire everyone around her.

What stands out most about Addi is her strong character and humble leadership. She leads by example, maintaining a positive attitude and unwavering strength no matter what obstacles come her way. As her basketball coach, I’ve also seen her incredible determination and work ethic on the court. She pushes herself and her teammates to be their best while keeping a positive, encouraging spirit. Our Oregon musicians just finished wrapping up their first round of the ILMEA season with the district music festival on Nov. 15th. Before this past Saturday, there was also the jazz festival on Nov. 1st and the orchestra festival on Nov. 8th. Oregon had 68 students in grades 6-12 submit auditions for ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association), and the students listed below were selected as the top musicians in the district. These all-district musicians performed fantastic concerts over the past few Saturdays after rehearsing all day with their respective conductors. The conductors are either college professors, composers, or retired high school directors. In a couple weeks, these students will find out if they made any of the all-state groups. The all-state festival will be in Peoria at the end of January.

Students in Mr. Johnson's Civics classroom learn how to construct legal arguments and about the justice system in their mock trial. Students participated in a variety of roles including jury, defendant, witnesses, and legal teams. Officer Lester was also a witness on the stand today.

Teenagers fighting to the death? Check. A mysterious maze filled with traps? Check. A society divided into factions? Double check. What happens when all those stories collide? Total chaos, that's what! Will they find freedom? Love? A decent snack? Or will the Gamemasters next twist finish them all off?

There are three opportunities to catch the show and find out: Friday, November 7th at 7:00 pm, Saturday November 8th 7:00pm, and Sunday November 9th 2:00pm in the OHS Auditorium (right in through the pillar doors). All tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for students, and free for children 5 and under.

With OES dismissing early today and OJSHS running on the regular schedule, the MyRideK-12 app may send out incorrect drop-off notifications for OJSHS families. To keep things on track, drivers will log in to the Wednesday p.m. routes at each school’s dismissal time. This may result in families receiving multiple notifications. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any confusion this may cause.

For those experiencing hardship or in need of assistance, Ogle County offers several community resources, including local food pantries. The Lifeline Food & Self-Help Project in Oregon and other area food pantries provide groceries and household essentials to help families meet basic needs.
